Imphal, August 30 2009: A contractor was shot dead by some unidentified gun men near his own home at Nongren under Lamlai police station this morning.

Contractor Takhelmayum Joy (35) s/o Babu of Nongren Maning Leikai was shot dead by about 9/10 persons at the house of his neighbour Seram Sarat at about 8 am today, conveyed a police source.

Joy was hit by bullets on the left cheek, right hand and chest.

According to family members, Joy was once a cadre of the proscribed KYKL about 10 years back.

But he had retired from the party and was staying at home.

The identity of the killers and the possible reason could not be ascertained till the time of filing this report.

Following registration of a case, Lamlai Police has started investigating the killing, added the source.

Killed in mishap : One person was killed while eleven others sustained injuries, when a Tata truck collided with a Tata Magic passenger vehicle, today at about 5.40 pm on Tiddim road near Malom Tulihal.

Police sources said that the accident occured while the Tata Magic, with passengers, was its way to Nambol from Imphal.

The passenger vehicle collided head on with the Tata truck, killing one person and injuring eleven others.

The deceased has been identified as Okram Sanayanba (40) of Leimapokpam Khunpham.

Among the injured is a two year old boy identified as Oinam Rockson and his mother Sangita (35).All the injured have been admitted at RIMS.

On the other hand, at least 10 passengers were injured when a passenger bus met with an accident today at abolut 10.30 am.

The bus was on its way to Imphal from Kakching.
