Students flay killing/protest arrests

Imphal, May 30 2009: For the second consecutive day, students in different part of the State staged protest demonstration decrying the killing of Prof Islamuddin of Manipur University and demanding unconditional release of student leaders arrested by the police in connection with the killing.

Some of the places where the protest demonstrations were staged today include Pioneer Academy at Konung Mamang, Royal Academy of Science at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, MM Higher Secondary School at Wangkhei Mayum Leirak, AIMS Higher Secondary School at Khongman Mangjin and Emmanuel English Academy at Lamlai.

At Yaingangpoki Bazar, besides staging protest demonstration, students of MCS, Holy Trinity, Asui Memorial School and Emmanuel Academy also took out a protest rally jointly, shouting slogans against the conduct of the police in arresting student leaders and demanding their unconditional support.

Students of Heritage Convention, Uripok; Millennium English School, Sagolband; DAV Public School, Sangakpham and Grace Academy, Tera also staged protest demonstration in their respective school gates over the same demands.

Similarly, in Thoubal district, students of Maipak Junior High School at Thoubal Haokha, Peace and Freedom Academy at Thoubal and Bless Academy at Thoubal Okram joined the demonstration in protest against arrest of student leaders.

Protest demonstration was also staged by the students of Konjeng Junior High School (Moirang Lamkhai), Thoibi Quality School (Moirang Okshubung), Bhakti Vedanta Mission School (Moirang), Saviour English School (Moirang Okshubung) and Advanced Public School (Moirang Gate) in Bishnupur district.

Meanwhile, Kakching Khunou College Students' Union has strongly condemned the action of the police in arresting student leaders.
