Imphal, June 29 2009: A suspected underground activist has been gunned down after a brief fire-fight with a team of Imphal West district police commandos at near Catholic School, Canchipur at around 7 pm today.

According to a police report, the commando team acting on specific information moved into the area but soon an encounter ensued with some unidentified persons among whom was killed on the spot in retaliatory action.

Police claimed to have recovered one 9 mm pistol and three live rounds from the possession of the slain person whose body has been brought to RIMS morgue.

Meanwhile, identity of the person gunned down by a team of Imphal West district police commando at near manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba last night has been established as one Md Husain (30) of Lilong Haoreibi Yangbi Leikai.

Husain's body has been handed over to family members after post mortem today.

Three hurt in mishap : At least three persons sustained serious injuries when a passenger bus travelling from Churachandpur to Imphal met with an accident at Keinou in Bishnupur district at about 6.30 am today.

The bus after ramming a man and child riding a scooter and a woman pedestrian fell into a road-side ditch along Tidim Road.

While falling into the ditch, the bus also struck a tree and a cow-shed.

The injured victims have been identified as Ksh Manglembi (65) of Keinou, Ahongshangbam Kesho (40) and Gulu Ahongshangbam of Keinou.

All three have been admitted in RIMS.

However, none of passengers travelling in the bus sustained any serious injuries.
