SFs scalp UG suspect, 2 found dead

Imphal, December 27 2009: A suspected underground activist has been gunned down by a combined team of Imphal East district police commandos and 28 Assam Rifles troopers at near Kalika Chingkhong (foothill) under Irilbung police station, today evening.

According to a police source, an encounter ensued at about 6.55 pm between the joint security force and unidentified persons suspected to be UG activists.

The security team reportedly recovered one 9 mm pistol, a Chinese hand-grenade and mobile phone handset from the possession of the deceased person, whose body has been brought to RIMS morgue for necessary procedures.

Meanwhile, one police Constable was found dead in a road-side ditch near Malom Keithel under Nambol police station in Bishnupur district this morning.

The deceased cop identified as Laishram Dinesh (36) of Malom Tuliyaima Awang Leikai was posted in Bishnupur police station.

No injury marks could be observed on the body.

He went out from Bishnupur police station last evening.

On the other hand, one labourer was also found dead at Maphou Dam site this morning.

A police source identified the deceased as one Bijoy Kirkee (40) s/o Durga Kirkee of Paspati village, Kangpokpi.

Fatal wounds made by sharp edged weapons were observed on different parts of the body including head.

The corpse was found inside a water reservoir.

Police have apprehended one individual in connection with the killing after questioning some labourers staying together with Bijoy Kirkee at the work site.

The arrested individual has been identified as one Gopal Battarai (22) s/o Ranjit.

He belongs to Bijoy's village.

It is reported that there was a quarrel between the two last night.

Police have retrieved the corpse and deposited it at RIMS mortuary.
