JAC to protest shooting of man

Imphal, April 25 2009: Locals of Nambol Leimapokpam Awang Leikai have decided to stage different forms of agitation by constituting a JAC against the shooting and injury caused to a worker, Oinam Amuthoi (48) s/o Sanajaoba of the locality.

Amuthoi was shot at by unidentified gunmen at his work site near Itham river of Yourabung on the night of April 17 .

The locals of Leimapokpam Awang Leikai today held a public meeting at Leimapokpam Bazar community hall in this regard.

The meeting called upon all concerned to clarify on the incident at the earliest.

It also demanded that the Government book the culprits immediately.

The meeting also decided to stage different forms of agitation if their demands are not fulfilled.

An eye witness, Oinam Mohen, who was with the victim when the incident occurred said that two of them were outside the makeshift hut when 10 other workers were taking rest inside the hut on that fateful night.

At around 7:30 pm, Mohen added, two unidentified youths came and asked about the contractor of their work.

Amuthoi disclosed to the youths the name of the contractor as one Oinam Bijen, informing them further that the contractor was not there at that time.

Upon this, the youths again asked about the head mason, Mohen said adding that the youths whipped out a pistol and pumped one bullet at the left chest of Amuthoi, even before he answered their query.

Leimapokpam locals said that Amuthoi has been undergoing treatment at Shija Hospitals in serious condition since then.

Amuthoi, has two sons, two daughters, apart from his wife, all dependant on his earning, they added.
