Imphal, October 24 2009: The National Investigating Authority (NIA) would be investigating into the abortive attempt of KCP-MC (Lanheiba Group) to blow up a car bomb inside Raj Bhavan.

The NIA was set up by the Government of India to investigate into terrorists related activities.

The Raj Bhavan car bomb incident is the first case the NIA is investigating in Manipur.

Taking serious note of the abortive car bomb attempt inside the well-guarded Raj Bhavan complex on September 18, the Union Home Ministry proposed NIA to investigate into the incident, informed a highly placed source.

Preliminary procedures to probe into the incident have been initiated though no specific time frame has been set.

The State Government has also acceded to the Home Ministry's proposal for investigation into the incident by the NIA.

In a daring and meticulously planned exercise, the KCP-MC (Lanheiba group) drove a bomb-laden car inside Raj Bhavan and parked just 100 metres away from the Governor's office.

The car had 25 kgs of explosive material, three hand grenades and two mobile phone handsets.

So far, police have arrested four persons and detained under NSA in connection with the car used in planting the bomb.

IG Intelligence LS Khoute also investigated into the daring car bomb attempt in accordance to an order issued by the DGP.

Interestingly, KCP (MC)'s abortive bomb attack was made breaching the heightened security measures taken up after two bomb attacks at Raj Bhavan earlier.

The State Government has already proposed the Union Home Ministry to provide Special Security Group of the CISF for the Governor's security.
