Imphal, September 24 2009: A man suspected to be an underground activist was found dead with his forehead slit by a sharp weapon near the jail complex of Ukhrul district.

According to police report, the body was recovered last night near the District Jail complex which is not in used these days and located near the turning of Choither village, half a kilometre along Jessami Road (National Highway-150) from Ukhrul town.

The body was retrieved by a team from Ukhrul police around midnight.

The victim has been identified as Stone Hungyo (37) s/o Simthar of Chamu Village, Ukhrul.

There was a slit wound made by some sharp weapons on his forehead.

Along with registration of a case, the Ukhrul police have started investigating into the matter.

According to sources, Stone had defected from Naga rebel group NSCN (IM) some 5 years back and till the time of his death, he may be probably working as a captain of the armed outfit MNRF.

Meanwhile, the body of Stone has been handed over to his family members after post-mortem examination at Ukhrul District Hospital today.
