Experts discuss origin of bird flu outbreak

Imphal, August 22: Along with arrival of all the members of the Expert Committee set up to find out origin of outbreak of Bird Flu in Manipur, a meeting was held at Hotel Imphal here today to discuss possible sources of the outbreak.

Carrying on the mission, the Expert Committee would be leaving for Moreh tomorrow.

With high chances of carrying the Bird flu virus by migratory birds which flock to Manipur during winter season every year, the State Forest and Environment Department has also started taking up necessary precautionary measures and red alert has been sounded in all the Forest Divisions.

According to an official source, the Expert team led by Commissioner of Animal Husbandry, Government of India Dr SK Bandopadhay arrived at Imphal today and a joint meeting attended by State's Veterinary Secretary KK Chhetry was held at Hotel Imphal in the evening.

The joint meeting held detailed discussion on the possible sources of outbreak of Bird flu in Manipur and how it spread out, the official disclosed, adding that the expert team would leave for Moreh tomorrow in continuation of its task.

On the other hand, ahead of the arrival of migratory birds in different parts of the State including Loktak Lake the Forest Department has alerted its divisions along with organising awareness campaign.
