Imphal, March 19 2009: One suspected UG cadre has been slain in a reported encounter with a combined force of police commandos and troops of 12 Maratha Light Infantry at Yangoi Khongbal under Wangoi police station of Imphal West district today.

According to police sources, the encounter with the suspected UG cadres ensued when a combined force of Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal police commandos and troops of 12 Maratha LI were conducting a search operation in the surrounding area of Yangoi at about 4.10 pm.

The encounter took place at the embankment near Yangoi Khongbal LP school.

One AK 56 rifle with magazine and 15 live rounds were recovered from the slain individual.

Even as the combined force conducted further search operation in the area after the shoot-out, there was no report of any arrest or recovery of weapons.

Police have picked up the corpse and deposited at RIMS mortuary.

On the other hand, one cadre each of KCP and UNLF have been apprehended in two separate incidents today.

The KCP cadre identified Pukhrambam Nanao alias Awangakpa alias Ibomcha (24) s/o Manglem of Langathel Khunou was arrested by a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 34 AR during a frisking/checking exercise at Khangabok Keithel at about 10.40 am today, informed Thoubal SSP Clay Khongsai in a press release.

During a similar exercise at Wangjing Keithel at about 11.30 am, Thoubal police commandos apprehended a UNLF cadre, identified as Kongbrailatpam Milan (18) s/o late Yaima of Sambram Mayai Leikai, added the release.
