Imphal, February 14 2009: Following tip-off about movement of UGs in Maringthel area in Chandel district, troops of 29 Assam Rifles of 26 sector under HQ IGAR (South) laid an ambush and gunned down two UG cadres at about 1 pm today.

While the AR troops were trying to stop the two cadres the latter duo fired at them and in retaliation the two cadres were killed recovering two 7.65 pistol, 4 live rounds, six Chinese Grenade and three fired cases from the slain cadres, said a release issued by HQ IGAR (South) .

In another incident, one UNLF cadre who was travelling by a Maruti van was apprehended by the same troops at a Mobile check post established at Sita-Tengnoupal road junction on February 13 .

The incident occurred when the apprehended person coming from Moreh tried to evade frisking at the check post.

The apprehendee identified as P Momoda Singh (24) s/o Lala Singh of Imphal West claimed himself as a cadre of UNLF during an interrogation, according to the release.

UG cadres held: A team of Imphal East district police commandos arrested one KCP cadre identified as Moirangthem Bikram (36) s/o M Achou of Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikai from Thambalkhong Lisham Leirak.

One 9mm pistol with one magazine loaded with two live rounds were recovered from his possession.

On verification, he disclosed that he joined KCP in the month of January 2009 through one Samananda of KCP.

He was involved in extortion of money from general public and Government officials in Imphal East area, said a press release of Imphal East SDPO.

Based on specific information, troops of 28 AR launched operation in the general area of Yairipok Awang Leikai and arrested one UNLF cadre on February 12.The individual has been identified as Shyam Kishor alias Tomba (22) (No 1004) s/o Ningthem of Awang Leikai.

The cadre has been handed over to Yairipok Police Station yesterday, said a press release of PRO Hqs IGAR(S) .

Troops of 57 Mountain Division arrested one UNLF cadre identified as s/s Pvt Aman Dorain Singh alias Tampak Ngakpa (19) of Wangu Sabal Awang Leikai from the general area of Wangu today.

On questioning, he disclosed that he was involved in ambushes laid against security forces at Keithelmanbi and Sajang in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

In another operation, a combined team of troops of 57 Mountain Division and Imphal West district police commandos arrested one cadre of a PREPAK group identified as Khoisnam Abung alias Maipak (27) s/o Manikanta of Shamushang Uku.

Seven rounds of .45 pistol ammunition were recovered from his possession.

Another cadre of a PREPAK group was arrested by Imphal West District police commandos identified as Arbam Premjit alias Nganba alias Nelson (22) s/o A Ibolambi Singh of Naoremthong Khullem Leikai.

Ten rounds of .45 pistol ammunition were recovered from his possessing, said a press release of PIB (Defence Wing) .

Troops of 57 Mountain Division arrested a suspected PULF cadre identified as Anwar Hussain (33) s/o Mukadar Ali from village Labakar in Cachar district of Assam in the wee hours of February 12.A large quantity of explosive materials including eight gelatin sticks weighing 1 kg, eight detonators and a fuse wire recovered from the individual.

Anwar Hussain was planning to carry out blasts in Silchar and Lakhimpur area of Cachar district of Assam during Republic Day function.

He was involved in the recruitment of locals for PULF (Azad) group, said a press release of PIB (Defence Wing) .

A combined team of Bishnupur district police commandos and troops of 57 Mountain Division arrested one UNLF cadre from irengbam area on February 12.The cadre has been identified as s/s Sgt Thoudam Ibomcha alias Luishanba alias Bobby from Irengbam, said a press release of PIB (DW) .
