Imphal, January 14 2010: Two cadres of ZRA were slain in a reported shoot-out between UG groups at Singtam Khunou under Singhat subdivision of Churachandpur district last evening.

According to police sources, RPF's army wing PLA and ZRA, a signatory of SoO pact, were engaged in a gun-battle at about 6 pm yesterday.

The two ZRA cadres killed in the gun-battle have been identified as Thangminlun alias Tiger (30) s/o Khupleimang of Sangaikot and Kangjamon alias Mark (22) s/o Lianlun of Gouchunkhup Veng, New Lamka.

With the two corpses not reaching Churachandpur district hospital till tonight, district police have still not received any official information about the incident.

However, a press release issued by the RPF claimed that the two ZRA cadres were killed in a gun-battle between PLA cadres and a combined team of Assam Rifles and ZRA.

A press release issued by the outfit's department of publicity chief GM Changjou said that a team of PLA's 252 Mobile Bn came across a troop of security forces guided by ZRA at Singhat area yesterday resulting in a shoot-out for about an hour.

While two belonging to the combined team of security forces and ZRA cadres were killed in the gun-battle, many others were also injured.

There was no casualty on the part of PLA cadres.

The outfit further asked ZRA not to indulge in such unbecoming activities in future.

Recalling that one unarmed PLA cadre staying in a village had been killed in a similar action of the ZRA earlier, it maintained that ZRA is not an enemy of the RPF or its army wing the PLA.

The outfit does not view the ZRA separately, it added.
