Ukhrul BCC cries foul

Imphal, January 11: Even as the AICC is reported to have finalised the candidates list for the upcoming 9th Assembly election, fingers of accusation and cries of foul play have been raised by the members of the Ukhrul Block Congress Committee.

Talking to The Sangai Express a reliable source said that the Ukhrul District Congress Committee had submitted a doctored and false report to the AICC observers and the MPCC (I) over the name of the candidate for 44 Ukhrul AC.

Explaining, the source said that the UDCC convened a meeting to scrutinise the filled up forms of each applicant of the three ACs of the district on January 8.The meeting was to be held on January 9, Tuesday at Ukhrul at 11.30 am.

However instead of sticking to the date announced, a meeting was held at Imphal on January 8 but the information was not given to the Ukhrul Block Congress Committee, charged the source.

The Ukhrul Block Congress Committee was therefore not present at the meeting, said the source and questioned what authority the Ukhrul DCC had to suggest the name of the candidate for Ukhrul AC.

The candidate whose name was recommended for Ukhrul AC is not even a primary member of the party, alleged the source and questioned how someone who has no record in the Ukhrul BCC could be recommended.

The Constitution of the Congress clearly lays down that it is the responsibility of the Block Congress Committees to maintain the record of its primary and active members, but ironically the Ukhrul BCC has no record of the man whose name has been recommended, the source charged.
