Imphal, May 08 2009: The individual shot dead by troops of 31 AR during a reported encounter at New Shijang village along Indo-Myanmar border under Moreh police station last morning has been identified as one Oinam Kabichandra alias Muthi (35) of Pishumthong Oinam Leikai.

It is reported that Kabichandra had been imprisoned several times for being a cadre of UNLF.

However, it could not confirmed about which UG group he was working with at the time of his death.

He left home three days before the incident of shoot-out, disclosed family members.

He left behind his wife and a three year old daughter.

The corpse has been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS today.

However, the identity of the individual shot dead by combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 34 AR at Salungpham last night could not be established till date.

A press release issued by Additional SP Yogeshchandra Haobijam on behalf of SSP Clay Khongsai said that the individual was killed in an encounter that broke out when the combined team launched selective search operation in some houses of Salungpham.

At about 7.20 pm, 3/4 youths were seen moving hurriedly in a suspicious manner on the rear side of the houses towards Ukhongshang.

As the combined team pursued them, two of them turned around attacked the security team with sophisticated weapons.

The combined force retaliated resulting in an encounter for about seven minutes.

One suspected UG cadre was killed in the encounter while the others managed to escape under cover of the darkness.

One US made sten carbine, three live rounds contained in the magazine and an empty case contained inside the chamber were recovered from the slain individual, added the release.

Body disposal : The corpse of the suspected UG cadre shot dead by troops of 29 AR at Gomi village under Tengnoupal police station on April 30 will be disposed off in case no one comes to claim the corpse by tomorrow.

Police have already notified that the unidentified individual had elongated face, pointed nose, pierced ears, black hair and medium complexion.

The slain individual who appears to be about 28 years of age was 5'8'' in height.

He was wearing a brown T-shirt, camouflage shorts and silver chain around the neck.

But he was wearing no shoes.
