Manipur takes up preventive steps against Bird Flu

Imphal, February 05: Even though no case of Bird Flu has so far been reported in the State as well as in other parts of the country, the National Institute of Communicable Diseases New Delhi has asked the office of the State Epidimiology to stay alert and conduct survey work in view of the State's proximity to Myanmar.

Dr Biren Singh, State Epidimiologist and Additional Director, State Health Services told The Sangai Express that no report of Bird Flu infection has so far been intimated to his office.

However owing to the fact that the epidemic has hit some south Asian countries claiming 13 lives, he has contacted Dr Satpati Joint Director NICD and Head of Epidimiology Dept in the same institute.

He also said that he had been advised by Dr Satpati to conduct a survey work on the matter and to instruct all the medical units to stay alert and prevent outbreak of the epidemic in the State.

Ministry of Health, New Delhi has also despatched crash messages on the matter to all the Chief Secretaries of the country, Dr Biren added.
