Three UG suspects slain

Imphal, July 04 2009: In two separate incidents of encounter, security forces have killed three suspected underground activists at different places.

According to police, in the first encounter which took place at Waheng Khuman Maning Leikai under Wangoi Police Station of Bishnupur district in the intervening night of July 3 and 4, a combined force of Imphal West district police commandos and personnel of 12 Maratha Light Infantry, shot dead one suspected UG.

One 9 mm pistol, one magazine, four live rounds of ammunition and one hand grenade have been recovered from possession of the slain UG suspect whose identity is yet to be established.

The police have picked up the body and deposited it at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.

In the second encounter, personnel of 29 Assam Rifles shot dead two UG suspects at Ril Ram Centre under Tengnoupal police station of Chandel district at around 6.15 am today.

Police report said, one AK Rifle, one magazine loaded with five rounds of ammunition, one sten carbine and a magazine loaded with two bullets were recovered from the possession of the two slain.

In connection with the incident, PRO Assam Rifles in a statement said that based on specific information, troops of 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched operation in general area of Ril Ram Centre.

At around 6.15 am, the troops observed suspicious movement of two individuals.

On being challenged, the two individuals opened fire at the troops and tried to escape taking advantage of thick foliage.

However, the troops responded immediately and brought down accurate fire on the UGs, resulting in elimination of two PLA cadres, the PRO Assam Rifles said, listing the recovered items from the slain UGs as one AK Rifles with magazine and bayonet, one sten carbine with magazine, five live rounds of AK, one live of SMC, 9 fired cartridge cases of AK, 3 fired cartridge cases of SMC, 2 IED and 6 Chinese hand grenades.

The bodies of the slain UGs along with recovered items have been handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station at around 10 am, the PRO added.
