Imphal, June 03 2009: Disagreeing with the version of the 20 Assam Rifles who claimed to have slain two persons in an encounter in a Chandel district area on June 1 night a JAC has been constituted and a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister in connection with the incident.

Identities of both the individuals slain by troops of 20 Assam Rifles on june 1 night along the Maipi-Angbrasu road under Tengnoupal police station in Chandel district were established at RIMS morgue today.

Contending that both the slain were innocent individuals with one running a shop and the other a construction worker, a large number of people of Urup Litan Makhong under the banner of a newly formed body christened 'JAC against the brutal killing of Seram Priyokumar Meitei and Laishram Keshorjit Singh' tried to make their way towards the Chief Minister's Bungalow today.

Unable to bear the grief wife of one of the victims faints

Earlier, family members/relatives of the slain duo identified the victims as Laishram Keshorjit (40) s/o L Modhumangal and Seram Priyokumar (41) s/o (L) S Jugindro both from urup Litan makhong in Imphal East district.

The agitated Urup Litan makhong locals led by meira paibis were prevented by security force personnel from closing in on the direction of the Chief Minister's official residence and were herded upto the Nupilan Complex from where a JAC team was allowed to meet O Ibobi Singh.

With the CM confiding that a Cabinet meeting was underway, the JAC team reportedly handed over the memorandum and returned as the Chief Minister assured to look into the matter.

O Ibobi also assured the JAC team to communicate with them through the Keirao AC MLA Allaudin Khan for further discussion on the matter.

Among others, the memorandum is said to have lodged a strong complaint that both Keshorjit and Priyokumar were innocent citizens and demanded appropriate punitive action against the AR personnel responsible for the duo's death.

Moreover, ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh each and a Government job to next of kin of the victims were also mentioned in the memorandum with a note of caution that intense agitation would be launched in case State authorities do not act in a positive manner.

On the otherhand, Keshorjit's wife Prema informed newspersons that her husband used to run a grocery shop at the locality and that Priyokumar was a mason.

She contended that Keshorjit left home on June 1 morning to purchase stocks for the shop and was accompanied by Priyokumar as the latter too had to buy some household items from the market.

Disclosing that to purchase items for the shop Keshorjit carried Rs 20,000 while Priyokumar had Rs 5000, Prema recounted that her husband wore a slipper (Moreh chappal) and had carried voter's identity card and driving license.

However, after being slain Keshorjit was found wearing a shoe (boot) in addition to the security force claiming recovery of weapon, the distraught wife maintained.
