IED exploded safely, bomb hoax

Imphal, January 03 2010: Army bomb experts have safely exploded an improvised explosive device (IED) which was found planted at Tronglaobi Keithel (market) along the Imphal-Churachandpur road.

According to police sources, the IED was detected at around 8 am today and the same destroyed near the spot of discovery about two hours later.

The IED weighs about 1.5 kgs.

Tronglaobi keithel falls under Bishnupur police station.

Meanwhile, frantic searches were launched in and around BT Road areas after an unidentified person in Hindi telephoned City police station that a blast would be triggered at BT road half an hour later.

According to police source, the caller contacted the City police on its telephone number at about 5 pm today.

Not taking chances additional security personnel were deployed and after evacuating the women vendors and parked vehicles from the market places intense search was launched for about one hour.

As no explosive device could be located the search was finally called off.

Civil police and commando personnel were involved in the search operation.
