Tamenglong, May 02 2009: One NSCN (K) cadre identified as Philip Zeme of Asalu Village in NC (Hills), Assam was killed on the spot in an encounter between the NSCN (K) cadres and personnel of 14 Maha Regiment at Lamka village under Tamei Police Station at around 6.30 pm yesterday.

Though extend of other possible casualties in the encounter could not be ascertained, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Longmai area alleged that four civilians were latter shot at by the security personnel at point blank even after due identification.

ZSU Longmai area, while condemning the conduct of the Maha Regiment has asked for compensation to the injured four identified as truck driver Helen Kuki of Kangchup Chingkhong, truck owner Majatkamang of Nurathel village, another driver said to be a Meetei from Imphal and a handyman.

Fearing the action of the security personnel in shooting innocent civilian even after establishing their identities, panic stricken villagers have also started fleeing their homesteads.
