Imphal, July 26 2009: Suspected UG's explo-ded a bomb at the residence of an engineer in Ukhrul district even as an IED was deposited at the house of the chief of a hill village in Thoubal district in a separate incident occurred during the last 24 hours.

The bomb hurled at the residence of the Executive Engineer Pumching at Hamlei village at Uhkrul district headquarters exploded around 10.35 pm last night.

No casualty occurred in the blast but caused damages to some properties of the house.

Police suspect, the attack was carried out by a militant faction actively operating in the district which served demand letter to the Executive Engineer of the state power department posted at Ukhrul sometime back.

In the other incident, an IED was also found deposited at the house of the village chief of Maryland in Thoubal district bordering with Chandel district this morning.

Personnel of state police bomb disposal squad from Imphal defused and destroyed the IED later this late morning.

The IED threat to the village chief was assumed to be related with monetary demand by militants by the police.
