Imphal, March 26 2009: A suspected underground activist has been reportedly shot dead during an encounter with the Thoubal Police Commandos at Sekmaijin Natek Khong under Kakching Police Station at around 6 pm today.

According to police report, the encounter took place when the Commandos rushed in and laid an ambush following specific information about the movement of UG cadres in Sekmaijin area.

One AK-56 Rifles and two magazines have been recovered from the possession of the slain UG suspect whose body has been picked by the police.

On the other hand, unidentified armed persons gunned down two persons at Irong Chesaba near Thokchom Samusang under Thoubal Police Station of Thoubal district at around 3.30 pm today though another person who managed to escape from the armed persons has taken shelter in the Lilong Police Station.

Since he has suffered injuries he has been admitted to the Lilon g PHC, said police sources.

The identity of the two persons who were gunned down have not yet been confirmed.

But it is suspected that they may be Md Ayub Khan (25) s/o Md Tiyajuddin of Lilong and Md Firoz Khan of Kiyamgei Muslim Makha Leikai.

The identity and the address of the other person who managed to escape and taken custody by the police have not been disclosed.
