Many decry abduction

Imphal, March 26: Various organizations have strongly condemned the abduction of Heinrich Wolfgang, a German national by suspected militants of KLA on March 23 from Moirang Purel Phura Makhong under Lamlai PS and demanded his safe release immediately.

Wolfgang, who had arrived here to acquaint himself with the activities of the German funded NGOs in the State, was abducted by the militants while he was on his way to Maphou dam to inspect the progress work of a community based project.

Condemning the abduction in the strongest term, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) denounced that 'instead of showing our hospitality and gracious courtesy, kidnapping of such visitor, besides being inhuman, is against the tradition and culture of the Kukis and it only reflects our image to the outside world in a very distorted and unfavorable light.

Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL), an apex body of Tangkhul youth, in a faxed press release, said abduction of the German national by suspected KLA militants was very unfortunate.

TMNL do not see any reason for the abduction and called upon the KLA to prevail upon their good sense by releasing Wolfgang without any harm.

Manipuri Chanura Leishem Marup (Macha Leima) expressed shocked that militants resorted to abduction of foreign national in a Border State like Manipur where foreigner issue is very much there.

So in consideration of present backwardness of the place and the future of the people,.

the captors should release the German national without any condition immediately, Macha Leima general secretary N Kananbala said in a press release.

Thoubal District Non-Governmental Organisations' Development Forum (TDNGODF) and All Manipur NGOs Forum in separate press releases have appealed to the abductors for safe release of Heinrich Wolfgang immediately in the larger interest of the people of Manipur.
