Imphal, April 25 2009: One suspected UG cadre has been slain in a reported encounter with troops of 20 AR near Tuinem village under Tengnoupal police station in Chandel district at about 7.10 last night.

According to police sources, one AK-47 rifle, four live rounds and three empty cases were recovered from the individual killed in the gun fight that took place near Tuinem village along the road leading to Laiching from Pallel in Chandel district.

It is suspected that the slain individual might be one PULF cadre named Md Musa (26) s/o Md Mubarak of Sora.

On the other hand, a press release issued by the PRO of Hqs IG AR (S) said that troops of 20 AR, acting on a specific information, launched search operation in the surrounding area of Longol Khunou yesterday.

At about 7.10 pm, troops observed a person moving in suspicious manner.

On being challenged to stop, the individual opened fire at the troops and tried to flee away.

However, he was killed in the retaliatory fire by the troops.

The corpse and the recovered items including one AK-47 rifle and four live rounds were handed over to Kakching police station yesterday itself, added the PRO.
