AR guns down two; UG cadres held, arms recovered

Imphal, December 21 2008: Two suspected UG cadres have been slain in an encounter with troops of 29 AR at about 1 pm today.

The encounter ensued when troops of 29 AR, based on specific information regarding movement of some UG cadres in Narum area of Chandel district, moved in there, conveyed an AR PRO release.

On approaching the area, the troops saw some suspicious persons moving in the area.

When challenged to stop, they fired upon the troops who retaliated immediately.

Two UG suspects were killed in the retaliatory fire.

One lathode, two live rounds of lathode, two FCC of lathode, four Chinese grenades, two IEDs and 22 assorted ammunition have also been recovered from the slain UG cadres, added the release.

Meanwhile, a considerable quantity of arms and ammunition have been recovered during a search operation undertaken by troops of 8 AR under Hqs IG AR (S) from New Chajol area along Indo-Myanmar border at about 5 am yesterday.

According to a press release issued by the PRO of Hqs IG AR (S), the recovered items include one M-16 rifle with magazine, 32 lives rounds of M-16, an AK LMG with magazine (drum type), 65 live rounds of AK LMG, a 9 mm pistol with magazine (country made and six rounds, two grenades and a Kenwood radio set.

In another incident two UNLF cadres were apprehended on checking a vehicle (MN-01K 4371) at Bongyang check post by troops of 20 AR yesterday.

They have been identified as S/S Sgt Maj Laishakam Pathoi (31) of Thoubal and S/S Cpl Akoijam Ibomcha (28) of Thoubal.

Moreover, one RPG launcher, 11 RPG rockets, 10 charger for RPG rockets, 11 Chinese grenade, 38 lethode bombs, a total of 2035 assorted ammunition, 1960 numbers of calibre 5.56 ammunition, two magazines of AK rifle and 14 magazines of M-16 have also been recovered from the UNLF cadres.

Both the apprehended cadres along with the recovered items have been handed over to Tengnoupal police station, added the release.
