Imphal, January 21 2010: Unidentified persons blasted an IED at the phumdi disposal site set up by the Loktak Development Authority at Ningthoukhong in Bishnupur district in the wee hours of today.

According to police, the IED was planted at an excavator of the LDA kept near the phumdi disposal site and it went off at about 2 am today.

The blast not only caused damages to the excavator but also to a house nearby, when its splinters fell on the roof top.

However no one was injured in the blast.

A 15 feet long flexible wire was recovered from the site of the blast and police suspect that the bomb was activated through the wire by a battery.

A search operation in the nearby areas was launched after the blast but there is no report any arrest till the time of filing this report.

A case has also been registered at Bishnupur police station.
