Paswan advocates 6th schedule

Lamka, February 17: Visiting the southern hill district of Manipur for the second time, Union Minister and National president of Lok Janshakti Party Ram Vilas Paswan today pledged his personal intervention/role on promulgating 6th schedule and regional council.

Travelling to the interior village of Mualnuam under Thanlon AC in a private helicopter along with the state LJP Chief Thangkhangin Ngaihte, Paswan shared a common platform with numerous tribal leaders and promised Hmar and Paite communities a special status under the sixth schedule of the Indian Constitution.

Paswan was accorded a warm reception at the village by his supporters and school children under the leadership of N Pauchindou, LJP nominee in Thanlon AC.

From Mualnuam, Paswan and his entourage headed for Rengkai public ground under CCpur AC where he reteirated the assurance for the tribals.

�My party works for the poor and marginalized society and I know the aspirations of tribal,� he said.

Besides repeating the sixth schedule promise he had made, Paswan also promised regional council for other kindred tribes of the region.

He also pledged to take up the cause of Zomis, who he said were struggling for their unification under the banner of ZRO.

He also called for the integration and political autonomy of Zomis for their survival and for their royalty to the Indian Union.

Notably, for the scattered Kuki community, Paswan said it is desirable that they stand for a cause and unite themselves in a common platform.

�The Kuki Inpi may come up with an agenda so that LJP can take up their cause,� he said.

Paswan in addition to the political promises he made, pledged to issue a health card for all citizens of the state and arrange a fixed deposit of Rs 5000 each for every new born girl child, if his party was elected to power.

Meanwhile, the United Naga Council in a communique issued yesterday said the apex Naga body would extend its support to RJD candidate Tinkhonei Haokip in Henglep AC, taking into account views and opinions of the Naga leaders living in the constituency for maintaining peace, harmony and social tranquilli ty.

The communique signed by president of UNC KS Paul Leo further appealed to all Naga voters to exercise their franchise in favour of the RJD candidate.
