Imphal, January 14 2009: A suspected underground activist has been gunned down by a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 34 Assam Rifles in Tentha area last night.

According to a statement issued today by the SP (Thoubal) Clay Khongsai, based on inputs regarding presence of KCP cadres in Tentha area a combined security team conducted search operation and came under attack from suspected militants at a junction in between Tentha and Moirangpalli.

In the retaliatory firing one suspected militant was killed at the spot and one 9 mm pistol with two magazines and two live rounds recovered from the deceased, the SP added.

In another statement, the SP maintained that Moirangthem Tomba alias Arnold (28) s/o M Tomchou Singh of Langathel Laikon Bazar, who was shot dead by a combined team of Thoubal Cdos and 21 Assam Rifles on january 11 morning at Angangching was arrested on an earlier occasion.

Detailing on the Anganching incident and slaying of M Tomba from whom one 9 mm pistol was reportedly recovered, the SP said 'on checking the police records, the deceased was earlier arrested as KYKL under FIR No.14(8) 2007 WKG PS U/s 17/20 UA(P)A.Act '04 .

Meanwhile, the individual shot dead by troops of 11 Assam Rifles on january 12 night at near satodai village under Khoupum police station in Tamenglong district is informed to have been a PREPAK cadre.

The deceased namely Naorem Rabichandra (18) s/o N Modhu of Moidangpok Khunjao Mayai Leikai, reportedly left home in June last with the family members unaware to which armed group he had joined till they were informed of his association with the UG group after his demise.

The body has been handed over to family members on completion of post mortem at RIMS morgue today.

However, body of the suspected PULF activist shot dead by personnel of Imphal East district police commando last evening at Heikruthong area along the Kongba-Keikhu road is still kept at RIMs morgue.

The deceased namely Ayub Ali (40) s/o Yusuf Ali originally hailing from Keirao Makting Makha Leikai changed his residence to a rented quarter in Hatta after a violent family feud in February last.

Meanwhile, body of Laishram Deepson (26) s/o L Muhindro of Sekmaijin Bazar has been handed over to family members today.

Deepson, who was staying at a rented quarter in Khoyathong Polem Leikai, was shot dead by Imphal West district police commandos on January 12 night at Laingamkhul area.

Deepson, reportedly sustained family income as a 407 (Mini truck) operator and along with the rent owner namely Pukhrambam Seshamani (26) s/o P Joy left in a relative's Maruti car on January 12 afternoon for admission related matter of his (Deepson's) son.

The apprehended Seshamani is in the custody of Wangoi police station.
