Imphal, October 12 2008: A young girl sustained injuries when an unidentified person opened fire at the Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi residence of RIMS senior Surgeon Takhellambam Yumjaobabu at about 7.10 pm today.

The injured girl has been identified as Naobi (14).She is staying at the residence of the surgeon as a domestic help.

She was hit by a bullet at the chest.

She has been admitted to hospital.

According to information received by press, the attack was undertaken by one of the three persons including a woman who came in a diesel auto-rickshaw.

On the other hand, protest sitting was staged today by the local people against the firing attack at the Kwakeithel Moirang Purel residence of Dr Manoharmayum Birkumar last night.

Dr Birkumar is the Associate Professor in Surgery Department, RIMS.

At about 6.30 pm yesterday, one unidentified individual came and asked for Dr Birkumar at his home before opening a shot.

There was no casualty in the firing.

Moreover, between 9 pm to 10.30 pm, sounds of intermittent firing could be heard in the locality.

According to family members, Wanglen Khuman of the banned KCP served them a monetary demand of Rs 10 lakhs about 20 days back.

Currently, Dr Birkumar is out of station, they disclosed.
