Yet another girl child evades kidnap attempt

Imphal, August 09: There has been no respite from the problem of child kidnappings with the latest report of a 11-year old girl managing to escape from the clutches of her kidnappers after being kidnapped from near the foothill at Ayokpa Khul located in between Wakha and Naharup in Imphal East at around 9 am today.

According to information received by the press, 11-year old Nameirakpam Sunila d/o N Loken of Wakha, studying in class IV in Government Aided Primary School at Naharup Mayai Leikai was kidnapped by three bearded men coming in a Maruti Van while walking alone on the road running along foothills of Ayokpa Khul.

The incident occurred while she was returning from school at around 9 am today.

Sunila managed to escape after biting the hands of her kidnappers.

She informed that another blind-folded girl was also inside the van.

Police, however, said no definite report has been received in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, the Catholic English School, Lamphelpat has strongly condemned the reported attempt to kidnap one of its student by unidentified persons on August 5 .

According to a release issued by the Principal of the school, the incident took place at a spot behind Lamphel post office near Lamphel police station.

The spot is also not far from the student's home.

As Samulailatpam Denison (reading in class IV) was coming back home using short-cuts, some individuals jumped out from an open white Maruti van and caught him.
