Sit-in decries gun attack

Imphal, November 03 2008: Decrying the November 1 night incident of gun attack by unidentified gunmen at the Thongju Boroi Makhong residence of Dr Thokchom Joy Singh of Medicine Department of JN Hospital, people of the locality staged a protest demonstration today.

Two unidentified armed youths coming on a motor bike reportedly opened fire at the gate of the doctor at around 8 pm of November 1 .

According to Dr Joy, on October 20, a demand note of Rs 3 lakhs signed by one finance secretary Lamjing Khuman of Kuki Liberation Army (U) and giving October 25 as the deadline for giving the amount was left attached on the main door of the house.

Two telephone numbers were also written on the demand note.

After this, in the morning of October 30 while he was looking after some patients at home, two unidentified youths, one carrying a hand grenade and the other holding a pistol, came and pointed the gun at him demanding to know why he did not contact them on the telephone numbers given.

Infuriated at the action of the gun wielding youth, he scolded them of lacking discipline and respect for senior for which the other youth apologised and left without saying any further words.

The incident of firing attack has come about after all these incidents, Dr Joy informed.

Meanwhile, Singjamei to Lilong United Clubs Organisation has strongly condemned the firing attack at the residence of Dr Joy and appealed to all concerned to ensure such incidents of firing attack in inhabited area does not repeat in future.
