Rally against terror blast

Imphal, October 28 2008: Along with taking out a protest rally here today against the bomb blast triggered by the proscribed KCP (MC) near the village gate of Ragailong in the evening of October 21 killing 17 persons and injuring more than 30 others, a five-point memorandum has been submitted to the Chief Minister demanding judicial inquiry into the incident and payment of immediate financial assistance to the families of the deceased and injured victims among others.

Other demands include providing Government job to the nearest kins of the bomb blast victims, giving more attention to the injured victims who are undergoing treatment at different hospitals and referring the severely wounded victims to suitable hospitals outside Manipur.

Organised under the aegis of JAC Against the Bomb Blast at the place between AR Transit Camp and Commando complex near Ragailong Gate, the protest rally began from Ragailong Village in the afternoon and after crossing Minuthong, Hatta and New Checkon the rallyists intended to go ahead upto the Chief Minister's bungalow.

However, as the rallyists carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans like 'We want peace, not bomb', 'We condemn act of terrorism', etc approached Pureiromba Khongnangkhong, a large team of State police stopped them and prevented from going ahead leading to a confrontation.

Afterward, five representatives of the JAC were allowed to go and submit the memorandum.

However, as Chief Minister was not at his bungalow, an appointment for meeting at 11 am of October 29 was granted and the protest rally winded up.
