Imphal, February 26: Even as the mother of M Naobi Chanu has issued a heart wrenching statement to the press highlighting her trauma, the 24 hour general strike called by the JAC came into effect from midnight.

The general strike is being called to demand the release of the lady who was picked up by Thoubal police commandos after the funeral service of slain PLA cadre Kh Bikash.

In a statement issued to the press, Naobi's mother said that when the news of the arrest reached her she along with a lawyer and members of COHR rushed to Thoubal police station to meet her where she was told that they may meet Naobi.

However when they went to meet Naobi, the SDPO of Thoubal police used harsh words and demanded to know why she had come along with a lawyer, said the statement and added that she was asked to leave immediately.

Later the mother came to learn that Naobi was at Lilong PS.

The mother recounted that she was shocked when she saw the condition of her daughter at the police station.

The severe beating that her daughter had to bear was shocking, said the mother.

The statement added that Naobi's shirt was also torn.
