Imphal, October 25 2008: Along with the formation of a JAC against the alleged extra-judicial killing of Paominlal and Haokhohen, the meeting convened today resolved to expose the dark side of policing and to seek justice accordingly.

Informing this, a statement jointly signed by JAC chairperson Rose Mangshi Haokip and secretary Zabiaksang Vaiphei contended that the two persons were shot dead by the police commandos in a stage-managed encounter at Maharabi on the night of October 23 after being taken into custody.

The statement said that Paominlal Vaiphei was an employee in the State Electricity Department and attached to EE Civil Division.

He was given leave on that day so that he could take part in the village social works.

Haokhohen Misao was a villager of Lhahvom who had gone to his maternal uncle's residence at Nongmaiching village, it added.

Since both of them were innocent persons, the JAC would be constrained to do whatever is necessary to bring about justice, the statement said, while informing that the JAC has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard.

The statement further said that the JAC would not claim the bodies of the two victims until there is an amicable settlement to the satisfaction of the bereaved families and other parties concerned.
