Imphal, October 23 2009: Referring to the news report about the killing of a UG suspect at Sarik Konjil under Waikhong police station in an encounter involving a combined team of troops of 21 Assam Rifles and Thoubal police commandos on October 20, the proscribed UNLF asserted that the man was killed in fake encounter.

A press release issued by the outfit's senior publicity officer Ksh Yoiheiba said that Sougrakpam Johnson s/o S Noren of Hiyanglam Lai Paanganba Mamang was waiting for a passenger bus to bring back his wife who went to her parental home for Ningol Chakkouba before he was whisked away by a team of Thoubal police commandos.

He was shot dead in a fake encounter at about 9 pm of the same day.

The police report about recovery of one AK 56, 15 number of ammunition and one Chinese grenade was the usual ploy of the security forces to cover up the fake encounter, the outfit alleged.

Even as late Johnson was once a cadre of UNLF/MPA, he had left the outfit four years back.

Since then he had been living a civilian life of a married man, the outfit asserted.

Alleging that there can be no meaner people than the Manipur police commandos who are killing their own people in fake encounters with their eyes set on gallantry awards only, the UNLF raised serious apprehension of a fatricidal war in case the police commandos who have been living with a belief that they can kill any one and their alleged patron leader Chief Minister O Ibobi is taught befitting lesson by the people.

Though the UNLF never wished a fatricidal war, it would not let those police commandos who could not identify their own brothers/sisters and the nation go scot-free.

The outfit further urged upon the people to intensify the ongoing movement against Chief Minister O Ibobi, Ministers, MLAs and the police commandos.

It noted that the ongoing people's movement would be decisive for survival or death of the Manipuri nation.
