Imphal, January 21 2010: A Chinese made hand grenade was found fitted at the gate of the pradhan of Kodompokpi Gram Panchayat today.

To protest the act, a public meeting held at the community hall at Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai resolved that no strangers would be allowed inside the locality from 7 pm till 5 am.

Police suspect that the grenade may have been fitted last night.

The bomb was retrieved by a team of Imphal West police commandos and handed over to Nambol police station.



Dharnas staged against growing incidences of bomb planting


According to the Pradhan, Toijam Kanta, the UKLA (MC) had demanded Rs 10 lakhs, which was to be paid within December 23 last year.

The demand note was issued under the signature of Boipu Kuki of the headquarters finance of the outfit dated December 18, said Kanta.

Two telephone numbers were also given on the note.

The note however came to his knowledge on December 23 when the family pet dog dragged the note in.

Adhyaksha of Imphal West Zilla Parishad said that as a Panchayati Raj leader, he condemns the act.

Later a public meeting held in connection with the incident decided to bar the entry of all strangers into their locality after dusk.

It was resolved to unitedly face such incidents.
