Imphal, January 19 2010: One suspected PULF cadre was slain in a reported encounter with a combined security team at Waithou Golai Achouba in Thoubal district last night.

According to a press release issued by Additional SP (Thoubal) Jogeshchandra, a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and 28 AR troops, acting on specific information about movement of PULF cadres in Waithou, Sangomsang and Lilong Chingkham areas, moved into the area and opened several check points.

Security forces saw movement of suspected UG cadres near Waithou Golai Achouba at about 9.25 pm.

On being shouted to halt, they opened fire towards the security personnel resulting in a shoot-out lasting for around seven minutes.

While one UG cadre was killed in the encounter, the others managed to escape.

One 9 mm pistol, one magazine, three live rounds, one .36 HE hand grenade with detonator, one mobile phone handset, one demand letter signed by PULF finance secretary Rishikanta and a wallet containing Rs 135 were recovered from near the body of the slain cadre, added the release.

Meanwhile, the deceased has been identified as one Md Rishi alias Boy (23) s/o Md Pishak of Irong Mayai Leikai.

He is said to be hard-core cadre of PULF.

Rishi left home around 6/7 years back.

In between, he was arrested by security forces three/four times.
