The decision was arrived at during a joint meeting attended by executive members of the RIMS's Teachers and Medical Officers' Association, Junior Doctors' Association, Non-Teaching Employees' Association and Trained Nurses Association today.

Accordingly, it was decided that all the OPD, routine operations and casualty services would be stopped, though there would be no effect on the treatment of the in-patients and other emergency procedures.

The meeting held in the seminar hall of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department also strongly condemned the gun attacks at the residences of the two faculty members.

After the meeting, a protest demonstration was also staged from today from 1.30 pm to 3 pm.

It may be recalled here that in last night's firing at the Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi Ningthoujam Leikai residence of Dr Takhellambam Yumjaobabu, a girl was wounded.

On the other hand, the Kwakeithel Moiangpurel Leikai residence of Dr Manoharmayum Birkumar, who is an Assistant Professor in the Surgery Department, RIMS had also come under firing attack on the night of October 11 .

It is said that around a month back, one person who identified himself as an activist of the proscribed KCP Wanglen Khuman faction had come to meet Dr Yumjaobabu at his house.

As Dr Yumjaobabu was not present, the visitor left a telephone number asking the former to contact.

After this incident, last evening three persons including a woman came to the house in a diesel autorickshaw.

One of them entered the house and opened fire.

In the case of Dr Birkumar too, the same proscribed outfit had reportedly demanded Rs 10 lakhs some 20 days back.

In protest against the firing attack at the residence of Dr Yumjaobabu which left a young girl injured, people of the locality today staged a Wakat Meepham at Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi.

According to information received by the press, the bullet has been removed from the girl after an operation today and her condition stable.
