Bullet riddled body found

Imphal, January 12 2009: Bullet-riddled body of a young man was found this afternoon at Langol hill top under Lamphel Police Station of Imphal West District.

The body was recovered from under a tree inside the deep forest located more than one kilometre behind Thongak Lairembi temple, near Langol Games Village.

The victim has not yet been identified.

There were two fatal bullet marks on the head and the back of the victim who appears to be around 25-30 years old.

He was found clad in a blue colour jacket, blue jeans and a pair of slippers.

There was also a scarf worn around the neck and a handkerchief tied around his chin.

Just below the cliff and not far away from the spot where the body was found lying, there is a small hut with a kitchen garden.

But no one was inside the hut.

Though the reason behind the killing has not yet been ascertained, it is suspected the man may be a victim of UG clashes.

It is also suspected that the victim may be one Yanga of Lamshang.

Police have picked up the body and kept it at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital for identification and post-mortem.

On the other hand, in a suspected case of drug overdose, the body of a youth has been recovered from atop Sora hillock along National Highway 39 under Kakching Police Station of Thoubal district at around 9 pm yesterday.

The deceased has also been identified as one Chingakham Antony alias Amujao (25) s/o Kunjababu of Kakching Makha Leikai.
