Imphal, February 11: A vehicle belonging to the president of the Zeliangrong Union (ZU) Ningtangpao Kamei has been damaged by supporters of some non-consensus Independent candidates.

In this regard, the United Naga Council (UNC) has taken strong exception and condemned the incident.

According to reports received from Tamenglong, the incident occurred after the president of Zeliangrong Union of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, Ningtangpou Kamei had hoisted the flag of UNCs consensus candidate from Tamei A/C Awangbow Newmei on February 8 at Tamenglong district headquarters.

Reports said that about 200 supporters belonging to some non-consensus Independent candidates came in a heavy vehicle to Tamenglong Ward number 2 at around 6 pm and damaged the vehicle of the ZU president.

The United Naga Council (UNC) termed the February 8 incident as being the handiworks of irresponsible miscreants.

The UNC appealed to everyone to honour and respect the leaders of civil societies who are working day out and day in for the welfare of the people.

UNC appeals for support and co-operation in their services towards humanity and also to refrain from such activities in future, said the Naga body in a statement issued to NNN.
