Army orders Jiri probe, body yet to be taken

Imphal, October 07: Inspite of refuting allegation of Army personnel's alleged involvement leading to the suicide of N Sanjita Devi of Jiribam, the Army authority has ordered a Court of Inquiry to ascertain the veracity of the incident, said a PIB (Defence Wing) statement.

The statement also assured full cooperation to the judicial commission and civil authorities regarding the judicial probe ordered by the State Government to ensure smooth conduct and logical conclusion of the incident.

In the meantime, family members of N Sanjita have still refused to take back the body till late evening today even as Commerce and Industries Minister Th Debendra reached his home constituency to pacify agitated Jiribam public.

Mention may be made that the State Government had ordered a judicial probe to ascertain the facts and circumstances that forced the young girl to commit suicide.

Strongly condemning the frisking of a Jiribam school girl by personnel of 12 Grenadier Rifles after which she committed suicide several women and voluntary organizations demanded a judicial probe within fifteen days and to punish the guilty.

It also demanded removal of the Army post from Jiribam.
