Imphal, July 07 2009: The proscribed RPF and it army wing PLA have condoled the death of Kongham Babu alias Basanta alias Sgt Chingamba s/o late Kh Yadhob alias Babaton of Jiribam Lamlong Bazar at the hands of troops of 29 AR.

A press release issued by the outfit's department of publicity chief GM Changjou contended that Sgt Chingamba was done to death mercilessly by troops of 29 AR after him into their custody at Rilram centre at about 6.15 pm of July 4 .

Sgt Chingamba was transferred from fighting section to Bureau I on May 12 this year.

He was travelling in a van along with six other passengers including three women from Moreh to Imphal to join at his place of posting under Division 8 on July 3 .

He was apprehended by troops of 29 AR between 2.30 and 3 pm of July 3 posted at Tengnoupal while checking the van.

At the time of his arrest, Sgt Chingamba has nothing with him except Rs 5000 in cash.

Flatly rejecting the press statement issued Assam Rifles in connection with the killing of Sgt Chingamba, the outfit clarified that the other individual killed together with Chingamba was not a PLA cadre.

He might be an innocent civilian doing petty business.

The outfit further denied any incident of gun fight between AR troops and PLA cadres on the day at Rilram centre or lost of weapons.

Asserting that all the people ought to condemn the alleged extra judicial killing perpetrated by troops of 29 AR, the outfit shared the pain and grief being endured by the bereaved family and near and dear ones.
