Imphal, February 05: The Manipur State Council of the CPI has claimed that at least eight candidates will emerge victorious out of the 16 candidates fielded by the party in the coming 8th Assembly Elections.

This was stated by M Ibohal, chairman.

Election Committee, Manipur State Council CPI at the Meet the Press program conducted by All Manipur Working Journalist Union at the Manipur Press Club today.

Despite almost a nil status in the popular government earlier, CPI will definitely have a say in the 8th Assembly, stated Ibohal.

The party has high prospects because of its concrete democratic party system, not plagued by defection and constant shifting of ideologies like other parties as witnessed in the last assembly, he said.

Maintaining that people are fed up of such political chameleons and with their opinions strongly against such constant shifting, the CPI have a clear edge over other parties of late, said Ibohal.

Replying to a question, he said that his party is not fielding candidates in all constituencies for the sake of better performance in the elections and better service in the people and the state after the polls.
