Allegations raised against killing, again

Imphal, May 03 2009: Of the many killed by security forces in the last few days in reported cases of encounters, one of the killed has been identified as a school van driver hailing from Khangabok, which incidentally was represented by the Chief Minister before he left it for his wife MLA Landhoni.

The deceased is identified as Moirangthem Manglem (24) son of Kumuda of Khangabok Makha Leikai.

He was shot dead in a reported encounter with a combined force of Thoubal police commandos and 20 Assam Rifles at Langol Minou road lying between Thoubal and Chandel district yesterday evening.

Police had claimed that one M-16 rifle, one Kenwood set and two Chinese hand grenade along with a Maruti van were recovered from the possession of the slain man.

However refusing to buy the police version, the public of Khangabok blocked the Imphal-Moreh road alleging that the deceased was a civilian.

The agitating crowd put up burning tyres, branches of trees and other obstacles on the road today.

Police swung into action and fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and in the police action, younger brother of the deceased, identified as Dhanabir (15) and ten others sustained injuries, said local people.

A 60 year old woman identified as Saikhom Shama had to be admitted to RIMS after she suffered injuries on her right arm, caused by tear gas shells.

Dhanabir who was hit on the back of the head was also brought to RIMS while the others were taken to Thoubal district hospital.

Interacting with the media, local people said that the deceased, Manglem was a school van driver ferrying students of BS Blooming School.

He had left home to get his van repaired at a workshop at Wangbal, they alleged.

On the other hand, local people of Khangabok met the Chief Minister today to present their case.

In another development, the body of Thounaojam Surjit of Langmeidong Mamang Leikai who was shot dead by a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and 21 AR on May 1 night at Kakching Uya Lambi has been taken back by family members.

The body was transported from RIMS morgue to Lilong PHC, where post mortem was conducted.

Meanwhile the identity of the suspected militant killed in a reported shoot out with the police on NH-39 at Changoubung in Senapati district yesterday has been established.

The deceased has been identified as Sorokhaibam Amarjit (27) of Chaoren Makha Leikai but staying at New Checkon at the time of his death.

The body has been handed over to family members after post mortem.

The body of the housewife, A Rameshori who was shot dead in her house on May 1 night at Iroishemba Maning Leikai has been handed over to family members after post mortem today.

On the other hand the identity of the suspected militant in a reported encounter on April 30 by 21 Assam Rifles troops at Gomi village located about 60 kms north east of Tengnoupal police station in Chandel district is yet to be ascertained.

The deceased is about 5 ft 8 inches tall and is attired in an ash coloured T Shirt and is presently kept at RIMS morgue for identification and post mortem.
