BJP President bares heart on State issues

Imphal, February 03: Undeterred by the fact that some prominent figures of the Bharatiya Janata Party had abandoned the State unit when the political organisation was enduring uncomfortable situation the saffron party is nevertheless determined to put the party back on track.

Affirming that the BJP is relentlessly striving to strengthen the organisational set-up, its national President Rajnath Singh today expressed that �it is natural that politicians with myopic vision keeping hopping to get their momentary political benefits.

But BJP is extending its holistic efforts in confidence building measures to the people of the region in general and Manipur in particular�.

In an exclusive chat with the Sangai Express, the BJP chief confided that party is working hard to remove sense of alienation rooted in the minds of the people and blamed such a situation to over 50 year long rule of the Congress party and negligence of the region.

No explicit steps were taken by the Congress Government when the common people were faced with severe inconveniences during the 52 day long economic blockade along the National Highways in 2005, Rajnath recalled.

On being asked on possible outcome of the ongoing talks between the Central Govt and the NSCN (IM), he said BJP always welcomes any initiative to solve insurgency problem and promotion of peace in the region.

While conceding that what transpires during the talks or outcome of the negotiation cannot be comprehended at the current juncture, Rajnath said BJP would strongly oppose any agreement between the Centre and NSCN (IM) that threatens territorial integrity of Manipur and its neighbouring States.

�Boundaries of the region should not be breached and they should be intact,� he maintained.On UNLF�s proposal for plebiscite under the aegis of the United Nations, Rajnath quipped �BJP is not in favour of plebiscite.

We oppose it�.

Every grievances and issues prevailing in the State should be discussed politically to bring about an amicable solution, the BJP chief opined and affirmed �Manipur is an integral part of india and it will remain as it is�.

Rajnath desired that Government take into confidence all the political parties to pave the way for holding political dialogue with all underground outfits.

Stating that international Islamic terrorists have sneaked into the country through porous borders of the North Eastern Region, the party President suggested proper fencing along the international border as a solution to check infiltration of undesired elements.
