SFs slay three in separate shoot outs

Imphal, January 02 2008: Altogether three UG suspects have been shot dead in two separate incidents of shoot-out with security forces today in Bishnupur district.

In the first incident, two suspected KCP cadres have been slain in a reported encounter with Bishnupur police commandos at Potshangbam Maning Okhalok at about 9 am today.

According to a press release issued by the SP of Bishnupur police, the encounter ensued when Bishnupur police commandos had a face off with 6/7 unidentified armed UG cadres during an operation at Potshangbam Maning Okhalok.

Two UG cadres were shot dead in the encounter.

One 9 mm pistol with one magazine loaded with two live rounds and two Chinese hand grenades have been recovered from the two slain individuals.

Further, many incriminating documents of KCP relating to extortion activities have also been recovered from their possession, informed the SP while adding that a case has been registered at Bishnupur police station for investigation.

The second shoot-out where one UG suspect was killed took place at Ungamen Pat under Kumbi police station this afternoon.

A police source informed that a combined force of Bishnupur police commandos and troops of 7 AR, acting on specific information, were conducting search operation in Arong Nongmaikhong area since noon.

The encounter between the combined force and suspected UG cadres ensued when the security team approached Ungamen Pat in the course of the operation.

On subsequent search of the area after the shoot-out, one UG suspect was found shot dead.

One pistol and several live rounds were recovered from his possession, informed the police source.

Deceased identified: Identity of the UG suspect shot dead by a combined force of Imphal West commandos and troops of 23 AR during a reported encounter at Chingnungkok under Lamlai police station on December 26 has been established.

He has been identified as Yumnam Nanao (18) s/o late Kumar of Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi Ningthoujam Leikai.

The corpse has been claimed by family members after post mortem at RIMS today.
