Two killed, four held

Imphal, July 01 2009: Security forces have gunned down two suspected underground activists in shoot-outs at different places of the State while four others have been apprehended.

In the first incident that occurred at around 8.20 pm today, a combined team of Bishnupur district police commandos and troops of 4/8 GR shot dead one UG suspect in between Nachou and Chothe village under Bishnupur district.

A police report said one 9 mm pistol with a magazine and two rounds have been recovered from the slain and the body has been retrieved by a police team.

Meanwhile, the UG suspect slain by Imphal West police commandos at near Chandranadi Lamkhai last night has been identified as one Sorokhaibam Jiban alias David (33) s/o S Tolpishak of Kakwa Sorokhaibam Leikai.

According to a statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S) 28 AR troops during the course of a search operation at Hiyangthang Takhel area on June 30 eliminated one suspected KCP (MC) cadre from whom one 9 mm pistol, three live rounds of the same calibre, one misfired round of 9 mm, seven fired cartridges of AR series rifle along with one fired cartridge of .45 pistol have been recovered.

Body of the deceased individual with the recovered items were handed over to Wangoi police station on the same day, the release added.

The PRO also claimed of 29 AR troops arresting two PREPAK cadres, including a woman, on June 30 from near Sita Track Junction along the National Highway 39 where the troops had established mobile check post based on input regarding movements of militant cadres from Moreh to Imphal.

Informing that upon questioning the arrested duo revealed of being 'husband and wife' overground workers of PREPAK organisation involved in facilitating movement of the outfit's cadres from Imphal to Moreh and back, the PRO identified the couple as Ningthoujam Mala Devi (22) and Ningthoujam Rajendro Singh (28) of Arong Khunou in Thoubal district.

The couple, handed over to Tengnoupal PS on June 30, recently arranged movement of Sergeant Major Ravi alias Sanli of PREPAK across the international border, added the PRO.

Meanwhile, SP (IE) Th Radheshyam informed of the district police commandos arresting one cadre each of the PULF and KCP (MC) organisations on June 29 and 30 respectively.

The PULF cadre identified as Khumbongmayum Nandho Singh alias Narayan (29) s/o Kh Kheda Singh of Nongada Awang Leikai from Nongada area at around 9.15 am, said the SP in a statement issued today.

The captive reportedly disclosed of joining the banned outfit in November 2005 and his involvement in extortion from the general public under the command of one Abocha alias Sushil of Nongada.

Another team of the district police commando apprehended one Ningthoujam Kafi alias Somorjit Meitei (28) s/o N Dhoneshwor Meitei of Nongren Mamang Leikai from Khurai Lamlong Bazar yesterday morning.

Kafi first joined the KYKL organisation in 1999 through one Shanta of Patsoi before his association with the KCP Finance Section in April this year through one Thangjam Dhaballo alias Macha Singh s/o th Naba Singh of Nongren Maning Leikai.

The captive was reportedly operating in Imphal East district with his extorting activities covering Govt officials, truck owners, etc., the SP added.
