Imphal, February 01 2009: Two suspected UG cadres have been slain in a reported encounter with a combined force at Top Yaralpat under Porompat police station in Imphal East district.

According to police sources, a combined team of Imphal East commandos and troops of 28 AR have been laying an ambush since early morning following a tip off about movement of UG cadres in the surrounding area of Yaralpat.

At about 10.30 am, a commando team in civvies and covered by AR troops from behind moved to a Farm Operating Unit of seri-culture, a little distance away from JNV School Yaralpat.

As the commando team approached a mound located inside the FOU, they came under fire from suspected UG cadres.

The commandos retaliated killing two individuals.

However some other UG cadres managed to escape, informed the source adding that the shoot-out lasted for about 20 minutes.

One AK-56 rifle with 16 live rounds (one in the chamber), one M-16 rifle with a magazine containing eight live rounds, one .36 high explosive hand grenade and a pack of plastic explosives have been recovered from the slain individuals who are suspected to be cadres of PREPAK.

From one of the slain persons, one driving licence issued in the name of Aheibam Oken Meitei (31) s/o Kumar of Takyel Kolom Leikai was also recovered.

The other deceased had a driving licence in the name of Sh Dinamani Sharma (29) s/o Modon of Yairipok Mayai Leikai.

Police have picked up the corpses and deposited at RIMS mortuary.

Grenade found: One hand grenade was found inside an oil pump complex located near IOC depot at Sangakpham this morning.

The grenade was retrieved by explosive experts of Manipur Police and later set off safely at an isolated place.
