Imphal, March 24 2010: The second commemoration of the incident that left three persons including a young man killed when armed persons opened fire at a Thabal-chongba programme in Heirok on this day in 2008 was observed today at Umang Laikon, Heirok Part-II.

Th Romesh, Th Premila and L Nirmala were killed while Warepam Rebika has been lost her sight in the unfortunate firing incident that took place on March 24, 2008 .

Offering of floral tributes to the three victims and presentation of simple gift to Rebika were the main highlight of the second commemoration held under the banner of 'Enlighten Day, 24th March'.

The event was organised by the Memorial Trust of Romesh, Premila and Nirmala.

MLA of Heirok A/C Moirangthem Okendro, SP of Imphal East District Th Radheshyam, members of Thoubal Zilla Parishad and Heirok Gram Panchayat were also present at the occasion during which three unit commanders of SPO presented simple gifts to Rebika.

Afterward, mother of SP of Imphal East Th Radheshyam and his wife also gave away financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to each of the families of the three departed victims and Rebika.

In continuation of the commemoration, an entertainment programme was organised where large number of local people turned up to enjoy.

It may be recalled here that after the firing incident as mark of bereavement, all form of entertainment programmes had been banned for one year in Heirok area.

The restriction is still enforced during night time.
