Tinseed road blocks over killing

Imphal, January 22 2009: LOCALS OF Moirangkampu, Top Awang Leikai and its surrounding areas today blocked the Tinsid road in Imphal east for a brief period of time this morning till police foil it in protest against the killing of a local youth by the security force allegedly after picked last night at a place at Kanglatombi.

With the establishment of names of the two men killed by the combined force of Imphal west police commandos and troops of 16 Assam Rifles today one of them was turned out to be an auto-driver who has been allegedly picked by the security forces from DM College campus.

His name was Ningthoujam Anand (30) son of late Anoubi of Moirangkampu.

Mention may be made the combined force killed him along with another one at Kanglatombi last night at around 6.30 pm.

Police had claimed recovery of an AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing 10 live rounds and a China make hand grenade from the two slain men.

Denouncing that Anand was killed in encounter, locals this morning took to the street along the Tinsid road at Khewa Bazar and imposed total blockade to the plying of all kinds of vehicles from early morning till police arrived and intervened around 10 am and dispersed them to resume the normal traffic.

Later, local residents gathered at the Top Dusara High School ground and held a public meeting and formed a JAC against the killing of Anand in stage manage encounter and decided to submit a memorandum to the chief minister.

According to the family as well as locals, Anand has been picked up by the security men from his DM College campus on January 20 last during day time at around 1 pm and later killed in fake encounter.
