Imphal, April 21 2009: Executive Director of Human Rights Initiative (HRI), Jinine Meetei in a press statement said that a Notice of Motion of writ petition initiated by HRI and filed by HRI legal advisor, Advocate M Paikhomba was issued by the Guwahati High Court, Imphal Bench comprising of Justice UB Saha and Justice Ashok Potsangbam to the state government returnable by four weeks in connection with the killing of one Leishangthem Santosh of Yumnam Khunou Makha Leikai, Imphal East District.

The statement said that the notice was passed in a writ petition filed by the mother of the deceased claiming for compensation and prosecution of the errant Manipur Police Commandos who involved in killing her son.

L Santosh during his life time was an Auto Rickshaw driver serving passengers from Pangei Bazaar via Kanglapak Parking.

The statement further recalled that L Santosh was arrested from Pangei auto Rickshaw Parking while he was waiting for passengers by a team of Manipur Police Commandos coming on an Alto car having no registration number on November 15, 2008 last.

Later he was found shot dead on the same day with another youth at Langthabal.

The respondents listed in the case included the state government through the Principal Secretary (Home) to the Government of Manipur, DGP Manipur, Imphal East District Superintendent of Police and Imphal West District Superintendent of Police said the statement.
