MHA reviews internal security with DGPs and home secretaries of NE

Imphal, October 10 2009: Union joint secretary (North East), Ministry of Home Affairs, Navin Verma has reviewed the internal security of the North Eastern states with the DGPs and state home secretaries of the states of the region.

In the daylong close door review meeting held yesterday in Guwahati, state IG (Intelligence), LM Khoute and commissioner (home) Vumlhunmang attended the meeting.

LM Khoute representing attended the meeting in place of state DGP who was reportedly asked not leave office by the chief minister.

The ministry of home affairs (MHA) held a security review meeting with home secretaries and DGPs of northeastern states here on Friday, a report from Guwahati said adding that the meeting decided to hold such interactions for every quarter in different state capital of the region.

The meeting agreed sharing of regional level intelligence strengthened further in checking movement of militants in different states.

In the daylong closed door meeting, issues related to modernization of state police forces, rehabilitation of surrendered militants, filling up of vacancies/sanction of additional posts in state police forces, implementation of various central schemes were discussed.

After Jammu & Kashmir and Manipur, the Assam government is also planning to initiate the Special Police Officers (SPO) model where a select group of civilians will be armed, the report added.
